Tips for Working From Home

"tips for workingn from home"Many people think that working from home means working much less, being able to watch television any time you feel like it, or simply wearing your pajamas all day. Working from home is great for most people, but what most people do not realize is that people working from home typically work many more hours than if they worked outside of the home. Below are some tips for working from home.

Get Dressed

Working from home in your pajamas may sound great, and it doesn’t really matter if  no one can see you. It is a good idea, however, to get up every morning and get ready as if you are going to a job. Of course, you do not have to dress up now, but it does help if you get up and get dressed. This will help you get in the mindset of going to work, and also help you have the right attitude about working. If you stay in your pajamas, this could very easily make you only want to sit around and watch television all day. Get dressed and get to work.

Separate Office

Having an area of your home that you can call your work area will help if you want to be successful. You do not have to have an entire office if you don’t have the room. Make your office a corner of your bedroom, kitchen, or laundry room. Wherever you can go to be by yourself so you can get your work done in peace. If you have a laptop computer, it also may help to head out to the library or Starbuck’s at times to do your work.

Schedule

You should have a schedule when you work from home and stick to it. Many people choose to get up very early and work, and then take time off during the day, and then finish up their work at night. You may be the type that likes to get up and get everything done during the day. Whatever works best for you.  Write down your schedule and then stick to it each and every day. This will help you stay motivated and help you get all of your work finished each day. Make sure that you do take regular breaks throughout the day, or you will very easily become burned out. It is also much more healthy to get up and walk around for a few minutes instead of sitting  in front of a computer all day long.

Rules for the Family

If you have a family at home, make sure they understand when you are working that you should not be disturbed unless it is an emergency. Also tell your outside family the hours that you work so they won’t be calling on your during these times. Many people have the misconception just because you are home means you can talk on the phone any time you want, or you can just up and leave whenever you want. It is true that you can do this, but you shouldn’t. This also goes back to your work schedule. If you have small children, work your schedule around them so you can spend enough time with them and the rest of your family.
